How to Remove a Misspelled Word (Like “teh”) from Your Dictionary

We’ve all done it — you meant to type “the” but hit “Add to dictionary” by mistake.
Don’t worry! Removing a wrong word from your personal dictionary is quick and easy.
Here’s how to fix it on every major platform.


🪟 Windows 10 & Windows 11

  1. Press Windows key + R and type: %AppData%\Microsoft\Spelling then press Enter.
  2. Open the folder for your language (for example, en-US).
  3. Double-click the file named default.dic to open it in Notepad.
  4. Delete the line containing teh.
  5. Save and close the file.
  6. Restart your computer or the app that uses spell-check.

🍎 macOS

  1. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G.
  2. Paste this path and hit Return: ~/Library/Spelling
  3. Open LocalDictionary in TextEdit.
  4. Delete the word teh.
  5. Save the file and restart any open apps.

🌐 Google Chrome

  1. In the address bar, type chrome://settings/editDictionary and press Enter.
  2. Find teh in your custom words list.
  3. Click the trash can icon 🗑️ to remove it.

🌀 Microsoft Edge

  1. Visit edge://settings/languages in the address bar.
  2. Under Custom spelling dictionary, click Edit dictionary.

  1. Go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Text Replacement.
  2. If you see teh, swipe left and tap Delete.
  3. Optional: to reset your entire dictionary, go to
    Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

🤖 Android (Gboard)

  1. Open Settings → System → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard → Gboard → Dictionary → Personal dictionary.
  2. Choose your language.
  3. Tap teh and hit the trash icon to delete it.
